Services Year in Review: 2009
A busy year for ISPCC services
2009 was an incredibly busy year for our services team! The ISPCC embarked on a new strategy which through our staff and volunteers and the use of web based technologies has enabled us to provide a service to more children than ever before. However, given the increasing demands for support in 2009 we quite simply can’t keep up with the demand.
Childline:
Childline provides a 24 hour listening service for all children up to the age of 18. Childline seeks to empower and support children using the medium of telecommunications and information technology.
The Childline telephone service is now receiving approximately 17,000 calls a week (28% increase) and Childline Online had more than 10,000 contacts received through the Teentxt, One to One and email service (compared to just over 4,000 in 2008).
Childfocus and Teenfocus:
These services provide a range of supports (web, telephone, individual, mentoring and parent mentoring) to children and young people who are experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties. In 2009, the number of referrals has increased by almost 100%.
Leanbh:
Leanbh was set up in 1997 to address child begging in Dublin. Leanbh is a 24/7 service for children, young people and parents who are begging or at risk of begging on the streets and also works with children and young people from new communities. In 2009 Leanbh provided support to approximately 50% more families than in 2008.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our funders, public donations and the hard working volunteers and the ISPCC would like to express our thanks for their support in 2009.
The plan for 2010 is to continue to strive to provide a service for all children who need it but we need your support in meeting this challenge so we ask you to give generously of your time or money in order to help us meet the challenges that 2010 will undoubtedly bring.
