6,000 join campaign for 24-hour Child Services

The ISPCC has launched a campaign calling on the government to establish a nationwide 24-hour child protection and welfare service in Ireland. Mental health problems and child abuse are not isolated to traditional 9-5 business hours.

The ISPCC Childline service is the only 24-7 service for children at present. It receives 78% of all calls and reports three quarters of its most critical child protection cases at nights and weekends. These concerns may include suicide, depression, physical and sexual abuse, neglect and homelessness.

Says Ashley Balbirnie, ISPCC CEO, “We as a society need to ask ourselves if it is acceptable that children who feel they need support are blocked by the system. A child is a child 24 hours a day.”

Just three months on, our campaign continues to gain momentum. Our online and on-street supporter recruitment has resulted in over 6,000 people nationwide willing to stand up for children. Will you join them?

You can help and stand up for children.  We are looking for concerned citizens throughout Ireland to join our growing network of advocates for children.
